Lagos, Nigeria / London, United Kingdom – June 2026
An international telecom company has partnered with the Duke of Shomolu Foundation to support the London staging of ZIK and OBEY, two major theatrical productions celebrating the lives and legacies of Nigerian icons Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Evangelist Ebenezer Obey.
Lebara Nigeria and the outfit gears for the productions which will be performed at London’s Shaw Theatre on 15 and 16 August 2026, bringing Nigerian history, leadership, music, and culture to audiences across the United Kingdom and the wider African diaspora.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to promoting African storytelling on the global stage while strengthening cultural links between Nigerians at home and abroad. It also highlights the growing role of private-sector support in expanding the reach of Nigeria’s creative industries.
ZIK explores the life and leadership of Nigeria’s first President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, whose contributions helped shape modern Nigeria and Africa’s independence movement.
OBEY celebrates the extraordinary career of legendary musician and evangelist Ebenezer Obey, whose music and message have inspired generations across Africa and beyond.
Speaking on the partnership, Teniola Stuffman, Chief Executive Officer of Lebara Nigeria, said:
“At Lebara Nigeria, we believe connections go beyond telecommunications. They include culture, heritage, and the stories that bring communities together. We are proud to support productions that celebrate Nigerian excellence while showcasing our rich cultural heritage to international audiences.”
Founder of the Duke of Shomolu Foundation, Joseph Edgar, described the collaboration as another important step in taking authentic Nigerian stories to global audiences.
“The stories of ZIK and OBEY are stories of vision, leadership, creativity, and national pride. Through this partnership, we are ensuring that these powerful narratives continue to inspire audiences across generations and across borders.”
The announcement follows the success of Kashimawo, the Foundation’s acclaimed stage production on the life of Chief M.K.O. Abiola, which attracted audiences in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Supported by an international communications campaign and global livestream distribution, ZIK and OBEY are expected to reach audiences across multiple continents, further positioning Nigerian theatre as an important vehicle for cultural exchange and creative exports.
