Governor Uba Sani has sounded a warning over what he described as growing attempts by political actors to distort democratic processes, urging Nigerians to remain alert and actively defend the country’s constitutional order.
The governor spoke on Friday in Kaduna State during a state banquet held for the Presidential Media Team currently touring Federal Government projects across the North-West, where he also spotlighted key development strides under the present administration.
In a statement issued by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Sani stressed that safeguarding democracy requires collective vigilance, warning against what he termed “self-serving narratives” aimed at misleading the public.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggles, the governor recalled the sacrifices of journalists and activists who endured repression during military rule. He paid tribute to late media figures such as Bagauda Kaltho and Dele Giwa, while commending presidential aides including Bayo Onanuga, Sunday Dare and Tunde Rahman for their roles in promoting democratic ideals and communicating government policies.
“Some of us paid a price for the freedoms we now enjoy,” Sani said, underscoring the need to protect the gains of democracy.
Earlier, the Presidential Media Team lauded ongoing infrastructure development in the state after inspecting several projects, including the 35-kilometre Gadan-Gayam-Gwaraji-Kujama road, a skills acquisition centre, and the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital.
The delegation comprising Onanuga, Dare, Rahman, Otega Ogra and Tope Ajayi also reviewed progress on the Kaduna-Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi railway project during the tour.
Organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors led by Hope Uzodimma, the visit highlighted regional infrastructure expansion linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms.
Onanuga described Kaduna’s transformation as a reflection of improved utilisation of increased allocations, noting that previously underserved communities were now witnessing tangible development.
Providing an update on rail construction, a Project Desk Officer at the Ministry of Transportation, Abdullahi Yakubu, disclosed that the Kaduna-Kano segment had reached 68 per cent completion and is projected for delivery by December.
