LagosMums and Mother Honestly to Equip Women, Families and Professionals with Work-Life Balance Solutions at the Prosper Summit

Leading family-oriented platforms, LagosMums and Mother Honestly, are set to host the largest career and family-oriented event in Nigeria with over 2,000 attendees expected in-person and virtually.

Tagged the Prosper Summit, the conference is a result of the collaboration between Yetty Williams and Blessing Adesiyan to lead deliberate conversations on changing existing negative narratives around caregiving, motherhood, and parenting whilst proffering strategies for women, families and professionals seeking to navigate the extremes of work and life, career and family demands successfully.

A  2021 research carried out by LeanIn.Org and McKinsey confirms that women are burned out and chronically stressed in the workplace.—and more so than men. According to the report, the burnout ratio between women and men had almost doubled since the previous year.

Similarly, the International Financial Corporation (IFC) under its Nigeria2Equal multi-stakeholder gender gap reduction programme in partnership with the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) revealed that Nigeria’s economy could grow on average by up to 1.25 percent and GDP could grow by $229 billion by 2025 if the country reduced gender inequality in its labour market and economic participation.

‘In Nigeria, culture has placed women on the receiving end of this unfortunate narrative. They are expected to carry on a ‘saviour’s approach’ to juggling roles and tasks until they break down. In rare cases, men are also caught in this rung.

‘These scenarios beg the questions “who cares for the caregiver? Who supports these women and men who dedicate time, money and other resources to ensure the comfort of their nuclear and extended households?”

The one-day event slated to hold on  Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos is expected to host a diverse audience including policymakers and organisations, for a series of plenaries, breakout sessions, meditations, deep dives, games and other self-development activities.

The Prosper Summit also drives objectives pursuant to the UnitedNations’ Sustainable Development Goal (8) which ‘recognises the importance of sustained economic growth and high levels of economic productivity for the creation of well-paid quality jobs…and the promotion of labour rights and safe and secure working environments’, particularly for women.
