The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council met on Monday, 7th July 2025, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, with the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; Secretary to the State Government; Head of Civil Service; Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor; Commissioners and Special Advisers in attendance.
Governor Eno, in his opening remarks, urged Council members to demonstrate “renewed dedication, commitment and collective responsibility in advancing the ARISE Agenda.”
One of the key resolutions was the ratification of approval for the construction of a 2.15 km dual carriage rigid pavement and rehabilitation of a 0.8 km flexible pavement at the Itam Industrial Park in Itu Local Government Area. The project aims to enhance infrastructure and drive industrial development in the region.
The Council also reviewed the State’s investment portfolio and constituted a committee to engage key investors, including the management of Rafia City Hotels (Four Points by Sheraton), to strengthen business relationships. The committee was also tasked with developing a sustainable management framework for the Ibom Hotels and Apartments brand across Nigeria, including establishing a functional Board. The report is expected within 30 days.
In a significant step toward youth welfare, the Council extended the ₦20,000 monthly allowance to all corps members of Akwa Ibom origin serving nationwide. This forms part of the Renewed Hope – ARISE Youth Support Initiative, aimed at cushioning living costs. The grant will be reviewed periodically.
To enhance urban planning, Council directed all legitimate allottees of undeveloped plots and abandoned units within the Ewet Housing Estate to commence development within 90 days or face revocation. The Ministry of Housing and APICO were tasked with enforcement.
Briefings on preparations for the upcoming State Sports Festival were received, with the Planning Committee instructed to expedite arrangements. Council also directed the Ministries of Health and Justice to finalise processes for the International Hospital project.
The meeting concluded with an inspection tour by the Governor and Council members to key projects in the Central Business District, including the Convention Centre, Ibom Hotels, and ARISE Shopping City.
