Peter Mandelson, the former United Kingdom ambassador to the United States, is facing a potential £300 fine after allegedly being caught urinating in public in London.
Photographs published by the Daily Mail appear to show Mandelson relieving himself against a wall in an affluent part of the city after leaving the home of George Osborne in November last year.
However, Kensington and Chelsea Council said it has so far been unable to issue a formal penalty notice because Mandelson’s current address has not been confirmed, according to BBC.
The council added that its enforcement officers were not present at the time of the incident and therefore could not issue an on-the-spot fine, although witness accounts and photographic evidence indicate the offence occurred.
Under local regulations, the offence carries a fixed penalty notice of up to £300, which may be reduced to £150 if settled within two weeks.
Mandelson served as the UK’s top diplomat in Washington until September 2025, when he was dismissed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer over concerns regarding his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In February this year, he was arrested by UK police as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations that he disclosed Downing Street emails and market-sensitive information to Epstein.
Details of the relationship between Mandelson and Epstein emerged in documents released last year by the U.S. Department of Justice.
