The outgoing Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Olohundare Jimoh, says the state recorded zero cases of kidnapping and a significant reduction in major crimes during his tenure.
Jimoh, who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police and redeployed to head Zone 2 Command, handed over to Fatai Tijani on Thursday in Ikeja. He expressed confidence in his successor’s ability to sustain the progress made.
Reflecting on his time in office, Jimoh said the command witnessed improved operational efficiency, enhanced public safety, and the introduction of innovative policing strategies. He called on officers, stakeholders, and residents to support the new commissioner.
Among the key achievements highlighted was the deployment of a 24-hour CCTV surveillance system across critical areas, as well as the provision of security for major events, including the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations and international competitions. He also noted that local government elections were conducted peacefully without security breaches.
Jimoh attributed these successes to strong teamwork within the command and the expansion of specialised units such as the Coastline Patrol Force, Anti-Crime Patrol, and Community Protection Squads, which enhanced security coverage across the state.
He added that support from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, led by Ayo Ogunsan, improved rapid response capabilities and helped reduce fear of crime among residents.
On officers’ welfare, Jimoh commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for increasing allowances and supporting law enforcement operations. He also pointed to strengthened youth-police engagement programmes aimed at building trust and cooperation.
The outgoing commissioner said Lagos maintained internal security stability throughout his tenure, with no major breach of public peace. He cited ongoing prosecutions in high-profile cases, including the killing of six traders in Owode-Onirin.
Jimoh also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and officers of the command, describing Lagos’ security framework as one of the most robust in the country.
As part of efforts to further strengthen security presence, he announced the approval of seven new police divisions across key locations, including Banana Island, Oshodi, Eleko, Airport, National Theatre, and Lekki. He noted that Divisional Police Officers have already been deployed and operations commenced.
“Residents are urged to cooperate with officers to enhance safety,” he said.
In his remarks, Tijani pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor.
“I am honoured to serve and will work with all stakeholders to sustain peace and strengthen security in Lagos,” he said.
