Awka, Nigeria – Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has appointed renowned investment strategist and veteran financier Dr Nicky Okoye as a Senior Visiting Lecturer, a move widely regarded as reinforcing the growing partnership between academia, industry and economic transformation.

The appointment comes at a time when universities around the world are increasingly engaging accomplished business leaders to prepare students for a rapidly changing global economy driven by innovation, entrepreneurship, investment and technology.
Reacting to the appointment, Dr Okoye reaffirmed his commitment to developing future leaders through knowledge, enterprise and strategic investment, maintaining that Africa’s sustainable prosperity depends on nurturing visionary leaders capable of creating wealth, attracting investment and building globally competitive institutions.
Dr Okoye’s career spans international finance, corporate strategy and enterprise development. Before returning to Nigeria, he worked as a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch in the United States. He later became a co-founder of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp Plc) and served as its pioneer Group Executive Director (Operations and Strategy), helping to mobilise over US$1 billion in investment and playing a key role in landmark privatisation transactions, including the acquisition of the former NICON Hilton Abuja, now the internationally recognised Transcorp Hilton Abuja.
He is also the founder of the Anabel Group, an investment, technology and advisory company that has championed entrepreneurship, digital innovation and enterprise development across Africa while mentoring emerging business leaders.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Dr Okoye is a distinguished member of the Nigeria Leadership Forum, an exclusive think tank comprising fewer than 40 accomplished Nigerian leaders and global executives committed to advancing strategic leadership, policy innovation and sustainable national development.

Members of the Forum welcomed the appointment, describing it as well-deserved recognition of a professional whose contributions have influenced investment, corporate governance, entrepreneurship and leadership development both within Nigeria and internationally.
His appointment reflects a growing global recognition that universities must move beyond traditional teaching by integrating practical industry experience with academic excellence. Across the world, higher institutions are increasingly relying on accomplished practitioners to equip students with the skills, networks and strategic thinking required to compete in an interconnected global economy.
For many observers, Dr Nicky Okoye’s latest role is not only a personal milestone but also a significant contribution to Nigeria’s quest to build globally competitive graduates, stronger institutions and an investment-driven economy capable of thriving on the world stage.
