The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and credible process as it prepares for its national convention and the 2027 general elections.
This assurance was given by the Chairman of the party’s National Convention Coordination Committee Secretariat (NCCCS), Lateef Fagbemi, during a committee meeting held Thursday in Abuja. Fagbemi, who also serves as Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, was represented by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo.
According to him, the party has put in place multiple committees to ensure strict compliance with Nigeria’s legal and electoral frameworks, signaling what he described as a rule-based approach to the upcoming convention.
At the core of the preparations is a high-level legal committee tasked with ensuring that all party activities align with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and internal party guidelines.
“This committee is mandated to address all legal issues and ensure compliance with extant laws as we move towards the convention,” he said.
Fagbemi disclosed that additional committees have been constituted to handle dispute resolution, documentation, and the drafting of necessary legal instruments before, during, and after the convention.
He also highlighted efforts to promote inclusivity within the party, noting that a separate committee has been set up to engage aspirants and explore consensus-building strategies aimed at strengthening unity ahead of the convention.
The NCCCS chairman said the committee comprises prominent figures, including former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema and former senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, alongside senior advocates, academics, and legal experts.
He added that reports from the various committees have been received and that the secretariat is now moving to implement recommendations to prevent disputes throughout the convention process.
Fagbemi described the APC as a law-abiding party committed to democratic principles, aligning its processes with the rule-of-law agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
He emphasized that the party remains open and inclusive, welcoming Nigerians from all backgrounds, and attributed its continued growth to internal cohesion and broad-based participation.
“The APC will not exclude anyone. We are building a strong, united platform capable of supporting the government’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
The party maintains that with the structures already in place, it is well-positioned to deliver a credible convention and ensure fair play in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
