The immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has decorated the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, with a prestigious Badge of Honour and an Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions and steadfast support for the advancement of the legal profession in Nigeria. The ceremony took place during a landmark event in Abuja, which brought together eminent personalities from the judiciary, government, and legal fraternity.
Justice Ariwoola, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Chief Justice from October 2022 to October 2024, lauded Wike’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law and his tangible support for initiatives that have strengthened the judiciary. Speaking at the event, Justice Ariwoola highlighted Wike’s history of significant contributions to the legal sector, both as a former governor of Rivers State and now as the FCT Minister, emphasizing the enduring impact of his initiatives.
In his remarks, Nyesom Wike, a seasoned lawyer and politician known for his proactive leadership and development-driven policies, expressed gratitude for the recognition. He reaffirmed his dedication to fostering a harmonious relationship between the executive and judicial branches of government, while ensuring infrastructural and institutional support to the legal community.
As part of the ceremony, the FCT Minister officially flagged off the construction and furnishing of the Office Annex for the Body of Benchers in Abuja. The Body of Benchers, a revered institution in Nigeria’s legal framework, is responsible for the admission of qualified individuals into the legal profession. The new Office Annex, a state-of-the-art facility, is expected to enhance the body’s administrative functions and provide a conducive environment for the mentorship and training of future legal practitioners.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, members of the Body of Benchers, senior advocates, and other legal luminaries. They all commended Wike’s visionary approach and his unrelenting support for the judiciary.
This milestone not only underscores the importance of a collaborative effort in nation-building but also highlights the vital role of infrastructure development in strengthening the rule of law.
