The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) hosted the 63rd Meeting of the Consultative Committee on Petroleum Statistics (CCPS), bringing together key stakeholders across Nigeria’s energy and petroleum sector to strengthen collaboration on energy data management and petroleum statistics.
Speaking at the meeting, the Director-General and CEO of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, emphasized that accurate, timely, and credible energy data remain critical to national planning, policy formulation, investment decisions, and Nigeria’s global credibility. He described data as a strategic national asset requiring greater institutional commitment and coordination.
Dr. Abdullahi called for a transition from fragmented, institution-based data systems to an integrated, transparent, and digitally driven national energy data architecture, anchored on stronger inter-agency collaboration, harmonized methodologies, accountability, and improved data governance. He noted that Nigeria’s energy transition, gas development, and economic diversification agenda would continue to increase the demand for high-quality petroleum statistics.
The DG further charged the Consultative Committee on Petroleum Statistics to position itself as a platform for reform and innovation by addressing existing data gaps while anticipating emerging requirements around emissions, energy efficiency, and sustainable development. He reaffirmed ECN’s commitment to strengthening the National Energy Information System (NEIS), developing comprehensive energy balances, and enhancing stakeholders’ capacity in energy statistics.

The meeting, a follow-up to the 62nd CCPS session held in February 2026 at the Nigerian Customs Service Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja, was attended by senior representatives from key institutions, including the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Ministry of Petroleum Resources (MPR), PTDF, NUPRC, NMDPRA, CBN, NBS, NNRA, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), and other relevant agencies.
