The National Union of Nigerian Associations in Italy (NUNAI) successfully celebrated its 4th Anniversary of Nigeria Day, drawing citizens, friends of Nigeria, and diplomatic figures from across Europe to celebrate culture, strength, and national progress.
The high-profile gathering served as a strategic platform for Nigeria’s newly deployed envoy to rally diaspora support for ongoing homeland reforms.

Ambassador Paul Adikwu
The event’s Special Guest of Honour was His Excellency, Ambassador Paul Oga Adikwu, Nigeria’s newly arrived Ambassador to the Holy See. Having just assumed office to begin his critical diplomatic mission, Ambassador Adikwu’s presence added deep significance to the occasion.
Prior to hitting the ground running in the community, the Ambassador had already engaged in key high-level diplomatic duties, notably meeting with the respected senior prelate, Francis Cardinal Arinze, setting a collaborative tone for his tenure.

Addressing the vibrant crowd in Bologna, Ambassador Adikwu urged all Nigerian diaspora communities and stakeholders to dismantle divisive barriers. He emphasized that the collective advancement of the homeland depends entirely on a unified diaspora front.
“Nigeria requires all hands on deck,” the Ambassador noted, mirroring the national call for collective action. “Regardless of our backgrounds, we must work together for the uplifting of our country.”
As he officially begins his national duty, the Ambassador extended an open invitation to the diaspora to actively back the strategic policies of the home government.
Ambassador Adikwu highlighted the intense, intentional efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to build a modern, prosperous Nigeria where citizens can look at their passports with pride.
The envoy outlined a forward-thinking vision for governance, assuring the diaspora that the current administration is reshaping national systems to prioritise competence.
He declared that the country is moving toward an era where an individual’s unique skills, global experience, and intellect will be the primary drivers for leadership opportunities and public service roles back home.
The 4th Nigeria Day event concluded with a renewed sense of optimism, as attendees pledged to bring their expertise to bear in supporting Nigeria’s developmental path forward.—————————————————————————————————————————————
