The Board of Trustees (BOT), Nigerian Community Leeds, being the bona fide representative of Nigerians in Leeds welcome the historic appointment of one of our own, Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung to the esteemed position of the Lord Mayor of Leeds, the first citizen of Leeds, for the term 2024-25.
Councillor Marshall Katung has already made history as the first elected African Councillor in Leeds in the history of the Council. She is currently the Chair of Scrutiny Board for Infrastructure, Investment and Inclusive Growth. Councillor Abigail has previously held other senior posts including Lead member for Race/BAME, Lead member for Faith & Belief amongst others. She is also Co-Chair of David Oluwale Memorial Association (DOMA) and plays a strategic leadership role for the Leeds African Communities Trust, an umbrella organisation for African Communities in Leeds.
Councillor Abigail, we salute you, celebrate with you on this momentous appointment and look forward to more years of progress as we collaborate with you and support your rise to the top.
