‘Beyond Aid’ report – outlines the weaknesses in the Tory-led Government’s approach to international development
Mary Creagh MP, Labour’s Shadow International Development Secretary, in response to the International Development Select Committee’s ‘Beyond Aid’ report, said:
“This report outlines the weaknesses in the Tory-led Government’s approach to international development which led to a slow response to the Ebola outbreak and criticisms of their projects from the National Audit Office and Public Accounts Committee. DFID needs to work more effectively across Whitehall, including through the National Security Council, to meet the complex challenges of disease outbreaks, climate change and conflict prevention.
“Labour’s new approach to development would see a Centre for Universal Health Coverage set up to support countries that want to provide their own healthcare, and would reform global bodies so they are better prepared for a world beyond aid.”
