The Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive and quality education for every Nigerian child as Nigeria marked the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
Speaking during a special Children’s Day event held at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja, Dr. Alausa joined children from different schools and backgrounds across the country in celebrating the occasion, while also hosting young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe.
The event was organised to amplify the voices of Nigerian children and strengthen national commitment to child development, inclusion, and equal educational opportunities.
Addressing the children, the Minister described Children’s Day as a reminder of the nation’s collective responsibility to protect and empower every child through sustained investments in education and wellbeing.
According to him, every Nigerian child deserves to be encouraged and supported to realise their full potential, regardless of their background or physical condition.
“Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged, and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance,” Alausa stated.
The Minister also commended Dera Osadebe for her growing advocacy for children living with disabilities and autism, noting that her courage and passion continue to inspire conversations around inclusion, empathy, and equal opportunity in Nigeria.
He said Dera’s story reflects the resilience and brilliance present in millions of Nigerian children and called for greater support for children with special needs across the country.
Dr. Alausa further noted that the celebration aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises child development, youth empowerment, and expanded access to quality education.
The Minister encouraged children to continue believing in themselves, develop their talents, and contribute positively to society, while assuring them of the government’s continued support in creating safe and enabling learning environments.
“Children are at the heart of our nation’s future, and we must continue to create opportunities that allow them to learn, grow, and succeed,” he added.
The Federal Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to advancing policies and programmes that promote inclusive education, equal opportunities, child protection, and a brighter future for Nigerian children.
