Zamfara’s ‘Jajiya’ Political Movement Backs Lawmaker Sani Jaji for 2027 Governorship

KADUNA, Nigeria — A prominent political group within Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the Jajiya Movement, has formally endorsed Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, Member of the House of Representatives for Kauran Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, as its candidate for the 2027 Zamfara State governorship election.

The group also pledged its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Addressing supporters in Kaduna over the weekend, leader of the Jajiya Movement, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu Tsafe (popularly known as Dan Masanin TsafeAlhaji Abubakar Aliyu Tsafe (popularly known as Dan Masanin Tsafe), said the gathering was convened to reaffirm their loyalty to the APC and to present an “earnest request” for Hon. Jaji to contest for governor of Zamfara.

“The current administration in Zamfara State has failed to deliver on its promises,” Alhaji Tsafe stated. “Misgovernance and insecurity continue to plague the state. We are confident that Hon. Sani Jaji, with his track record of dedication and generosity, is the right person to rescue the state from its current predicament.”

Zamfara State is currently governed by Dauda Lawal of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who assumed office in May 2023 after defeating the then-incumbent APC governor, Bello Matawalle.

Hon. Lawali Attahiru Dogon Kade, a senior figure within the movement, echoed Tsafe’s sentiment, describing Jaji as “a dedicated and generous individual who is always helping the people.”

“We believe that Hon. Sani Jaji is the most suitable person to lead Zamfara State,” Dogon Kade said. “He alone has the capacity to bring peace and progress to our state.”

A delegation of Islamic clerics from Zamfara, led by Malam Murtala Adala, also attended the event. Adala disclosed that the clerics have been offering prayers and reciting the Qur’an regularly for Jaji’s political success.

“Hon. Aminu Jaji is the most qualified person for the position,” he said. “We will continue to pray for his success and support him in his bid to become governor.”

The event, held in Kaduna, drew a cross-section of APC supporters from across Zamfara, many of whom expressed commitment to campaign for Jaji in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.

In his address, Hon. Jaji expressed gratitude for the endorsement and laid out his vision for Zamfara State. His priorities, he said, include reviving the Shari’a legal system, restoring peace and security, boosting economic development, and promoting harmony and equity across the state’s diverse communities.

“We are committed to working with the people of Zamfara State to build a better future for ourselves and for future generations,” Jaji said. “We will work tirelessly to ensure that our state is prosperous, peaceful, and harmonious.”

Jaji also threw his weight behind President Tinubu’s re-election campaign, praising the President’s leadership and policies. “They have improved the lives of Nigerians,” he said.

The APC, which regained national control in 2023 with President Tinubu’s victory, will be looking to reclaim Zamfara in 2027 after its loss to the PDP in the last governorship race.

“We are on a journey to make Zamfara State great again,” Jaji said. “We need the support of all the people of Zamfara to achieve our goal. Let us work together to build a better future.”
