The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI), National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) Branch, Comrade Alfa Zubairu, has commended members of the union for their resilience, innovation, and commitment to national development as Nigeria marks Workers’ Day 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday to commemorate the annual celebration themed “Innovation, Solidarity, and National Progress,” Zubairu praised the contributions of NBTI and ASURI members to the country’s growing innovation ecosystem.
He noted that workers across NBTI incubation centres and laboratories have continued to play a pivotal role in transforming research and development into commercially viable products.
“From our incubation centres to our testing labs, your work drives Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem. You guide entrepreneurs to turn research and development into market-ready products, uphold standards, and ensure every breakthrough meets the quality required for commercialization,” he said.
The ASURI branch chairman emphasized that the efforts of members have significantly contributed to converting local ideas into thriving enterprises, creating opportunities and boosting economic growth.
“You transform local ideas into enterprises and challenges into opportunities for millions of Nigerians. Your dedication remains the backbone of our collective progress,” Zubairu added.
Reaffirming the union’s commitment to workers’ welfare and professional dignity, he invoked the historic labour movement slogan, saying, “Aluta Continua… Victoria Ascerta! Together, we incubate the future. Together, we defend the dignity of labour and enterprise.”
Zubairu further expressed appreciation to members for their unwavering service to technology development, standardization, and national advancement, calling for sustained unity and solidarity among workers.
“Solidarity forever,” he concluded.
Workers’ Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, is celebrated annually on May 1 to honour the contributions of workers and promote their rights across the globe.
