University Gospel Choir of the Year – one day to LIVE!
What does the music of heaven sound like? Why not get a taster at the UGCY 2023 show this Sat 25th March? Join in the excitement as eight of the UK’s best University Gospel Choirs compete in “Sister Act meets X Factor” style to be crowned this year’s winners. Weeks of intense preparation will come together in a powerful way, leaving no one in the audience untouched by heavenly vocal harmonies & high energy performances.
The formidable UGCY judging panel features the UK’s greatest current gospel artists, vocalists and choir directors including Calledout, Volney Morgan, Lurine Cato MBE and Leonn Meade. What vocal acrobatics will it take to get a standing ovation from these seasoned pros?
UGCY, founded by Lorraine Wright MBE and now in its 11th year, has some new twists in its 2023 edition, with choirs being allowed to each perform one song featuring a guest artist of their choice to add that extra spice. In addition, the audience also gets to also cast their collective vote on who should be crowned as the winning choir, counting as the fifth judge.
Saturday’s UGCY competition, hosted by the multi-talented artist and comedian Faith Child, is guaranteed to get everyone on their feet and singing along. Opening act Sarah Teibo will bless the audience with music that brings in the atmosphere of heaven, setting the scene for the night.
Have you ever wondered what it sounds like when three hundred trained singers all unite their voices? In the words of Nat King Cole “Unforgettable”! Look out for a special performance of all the choirs coming together for one song. Simply multiply that sound x 10,000 in your mind and yes – UGCY 2023 truly is bringing a sample of the sound of heaven to earth. Make sure you have TICKETS ready for this unmissable event.
The University Gospel Choir of the Year will be held on Saturday 25th March 2023 at Oasis House, Croydon CR0 3EX with doors open from 6pm.
