A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, who is standing trial over alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office.
The ruling comes amid ongoing proceedings in a case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which accused the former governor of multiple counts of financial fraud and related offences.
Court records indicate that El-Rufai is facing a nine-count amended charge bordering on alleged diversion of public funds, including claims involving about ₦11 billion linked to a failed light rail project, alleged excess severance payments, and mismanagement of a World Bank loan.
The court, however, granted him bail while the substantive trial continues. Proceedings were also marked by procedural arguments after the prosecution filed amended charges, prompting brief delays and further adjournments on aspects of the case.
Meanwhile, a separate hearing on related matters has been adjourned for further proceedings as both prosecution and defence continue to review filings.
El-Rufai has denied all allegations against him, while the case is expected to resume later this month.
