No fewer than 3,000 delegates have arrived at the Rainbow Event Centre, Garki, Abuja, for the ongoing national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The delegates, drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, were seen in colourful attire, reflecting unity and diversity within the party.
Security operatives conducted thorough checks on participants before granting access as accreditation commenced under the supervision of the accreditation sub-committee chaired by Austin Akobundu.
The National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, said delegates’ allocation across states was based on state size to ensure fair and equitable representation at the convention.
Idigo also expressed concern over difficulties encountered in securing a suitable venue for the event, alleging that several private facility owners declined to host the party.
He said attempts to secure Eagle Square and the Velodrome at the National Stadium were unsuccessful, adding that other venues also turned down requests.
According to him, some event centres initially agreed but later reconsidered, citing concerns over alleged external pressure.
He added that the convention would conclude the party’s congresses, ratify a new constitution, and prepare the ground for upcoming party primaries.
