President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment process for 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the Federal Civil Service, a move the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has described as a landmark intervention to strengthen teaching and learning in Federal Unity Colleges across the country.

Dr. Alausa said the approval reflects President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to revitalising the education sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda and addressing the longstanding shortage of teachers in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges.

According to the Minister, priority will be given to verified PTA teachers, many of whom have devoted between two and three decades to teaching in federal schools without permanent appointments.

“This is a President who cares deeply for Nigeria and for the future of our country. By approving this recruitment process, President Tinubu has demonstrated that education remains central to his administration’s development agenda,” Alausa said.

He explained that the recruitment followed an extensive verification exercise conducted by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, which confirmed 3,252 qualified PTA teachers across the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors.

The Minister noted that the exercise was designed to ensure that only verified and eligible teachers are absorbed into the federal public service in line with established regulations.

Dr. Alausa described the approval as a major boost for quality education, saying it would significantly improve the teacher-student ratio, strengthen classroom instruction and preserve the wealth of experience accumulated by PTA teachers who have faithfully served in Federal Unity Colleges for many years.

He added that integrating the experienced teachers into the public service would enhance learning outcomes and further reposition Federal Unity Colleges as centres of academic excellence.

The Minister disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education is working closely with relevant government agencies to conclude all outstanding statutory processes required before the issuance of final letters of appointment.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the recruitment process, describing the decision as another demonstration of the administration’s determination to place education at the centre of national development.

According to him, no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers, making sustained investment in the teaching workforce essential to achieving meaningful reforms.

Dr. Alausa assured all verified PTA teachers that the regularisation exercise would be concluded transparently, fairly and strictly in accordance with public service rules.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to implementing policies that strengthen the teaching profession, improve learning outcomes and guarantee every learner in Nigeria’s Federal Unity Colleges access to quality education delivered by competent, motivated and professionally supported teachers.

The recruitment is widely seen as one of the most significant interventions in recent years to stabilise staffing in Federal Unity Colleges and advance the Federal Government’s broader reforms aimed at improving educational standards and developing the nation’s human capital.
