The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has paid a special visit to a 98-year-old retired Warrant Officer, Echenim Emmanuel Ewemiwe, in Delta State to mark his birthday and recognise his service to the nation.
A delegation led by the Board’s Chairman, Major General J.E. Osifo, visited the veteran at his home in Ute-Erumu, near Agbor, in Ika North East Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, the delegation included the Director of Navy Pensions, Commodore Galadima Ciroma; Squadron Leader Aliyu Muhammed; and the Delta State Chairman of the Legion, Captain Robertson Akpojovwo.
The celebration featured cultural performances and traditional dances. Family members, friends and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the veteran, who is among Nigeria’s oldest surviving military veterans.
Speaking at the event, Major General Osifo acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of military veterans across the country. He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to their welfare, describing it as a priority.
Other dignitaries present included the traditional ruler, the Aruwe of Ute-Erumu, clergy members and community leaders.
Responding, the family’s representative, retired Master Warrant Officer Chuks Echenim, thanked the Chairman for travelling to Delta State to celebrate with their father on his special day.
The visit, according to the Board, reflects its recognition of veterans’ sacrifices and its commitment to honouring their service and upholding their dignity, beyond the administration of pensions.
