As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration passes the two-year mark, a review against his Renewed Hope manifesto shows a pattern of deliberate implementation, with several landmark promises already delivered and foundations laid for long-term national renewal.
The administration moved swiftly on its core economic agenda, taking difficult but decisive steps to remove the fuel subsidy and unify the foreign exchange market. These reforms, aimed at stopping waste and restoring macroeconomic stability, were complemented by fiscal measures like the Treasury Single Window and efforts to recapitalise the banking sector.
In education, a flagship promise has been transformed into reality. The student loan programme, managed by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), has disbursed approximately ₦154 billion in interest-free loans to nearly one million students in federal and state institutions, digitalising access to higher education.
A major breakthrough in governance has been the decentralisation of power, enabled by the Electricity Act 2023. States can now legally generate, transmit, and regulate electricity within their borders, marking significant progress toward true federalism. This is alongside strengthened autonomy for Local Government Areas.
Infrastructure development continues at pace. Key road projects like the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are being expanded, major airports have been upgraded, and rail services are progressing. The transformative Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway has commenced, set to boost trade, tourism, and job creation in the southern corridor.
The push for local production and import substitution is yielding tangible results, with Nigeria recording a trade surplus—exports of ₦22.81 trillion against imports of ₦16.12 trillion—signalling a move toward a more self-reliant economy.
In energy, the Renewable Energy Master Plan is guiding a transition to cleaner power, with nationwide solarisation projects and strategic partnerships, like the one with LONGi Solar, aiming to boost local manufacturing and deployment.
While security remains a complex challenge, progress is noted through improved inter-agency coordination, intelligence-led operations, and the establishment of a Nigeria-US joint security committee to combat terrorism in the Sahel region.
Other key deliveries include the signing of four landmark tax reform laws to simplify the system, a significant increase in the national minimum wage and NYSC allowance, and the advancement of a Diaspora Voting Bill to the National Assembly.
From the Skill-Up Artisan Programme to the National Livestock Programme and the Renewed Hope Cities housing initiative, actions across sectors reflect a governance model guided by its manifesto. The direction is clear: difficult reforms are being implemented to establish the foundation for sustained national renewal.
