Your Sunday’s Snippet.
Kemi Badenoch is Beyond Nigeria.
Many Nigerians are attacking Kemi on her views about our country not realising that Kemi is simply principled with a take no prisoners manner.
Kemi obviously has shed away her Nigerian-ness because of our odious political, religious, economic and social issues. She didn’t get to where she is today by wearing the garb of Nigeria/ness but being stoutly British. She may have grown up in Lagos, schooled in Sagamu with a great pedigree of being a daughter to a medical doctor and a professor. But she continues to reiterate that Nigeria failed her.
I’m happy that Kemi has done well and I’m not a bit angry that she has not wholeheartedly allowed us to share in her triumph and give salutations to her accomplishments. That’s the way she wanted it based on her rabid Britishness stance.
She may become British Prime Minister in the future and certainly not on the strength of her connections with Nigeria essentially because of her derisive comments about Nigeria.
She was recently reported to have avoided Abike Dabiri Erewa and I would think she did not want to kowtow and indulge in hypocrisy and humbug as a true Omoluabi she is. Kemi is someone who is ‘outside’ but who looks like us and ready to look us in the face to tell us how smelly we are.
For over 64 years, our national grid is constantly collapsing, insecurity is unabated, education is collapsing too and many youngsters are constantly looking for avenues to flee the country while our politicians and their immediate families feed fat on the people’s Commonwealth without blinking eyes.
I fervently wish that more of us, and particularly our politicians would be like what Kemi has unapologetically become. Our leaders must endeavour to become more Nigerians in outlook and interests and as they are now – selfish, parochial, divisive and self destructively corrupt in all aspects.
Let us have values as greatly as the values espoused and held dearly by Kemi so that other brilliant citizens with so much to offer will be able to do so to advance our country.
Allow Kemi to continue to showcase glowingly her pride at the honour of being British and having the immense opportunity to rise to the level she is. Her late father, Dr Femi Adegoke aka Fariga and Voice of Reason Champion would be so proud of his daughter watching her from heaven.
