The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Osun gubernatorial election, Bola Oyebamiji, has broken his silence, revealing that the party is currently “examining the books” to determine its next course of action regarding the election results.
Speaking to State House Corespondents after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa Abuja, Oyebamiji urged his supporters to remain calm but hinted that a formal position on the outcome is imminent.
“For now, the APC is still examining the books,” Oyebamiji stated. “By the time we spread our sheets, we will be able to get back to the public on our opinions and the decisions we want to take. The take-home for now is that our people should remain calm.”
Speaking of the Post-Election Violence in the state, Oyebamiji popularly called AMBO
Says the atmosphere in the state remains tense following reports of targeted attacks on opposition members. Oyebamiji raised an alarm over what he described as orchestrated violence against APC supporters, specifically citing a fresh incident in his hometown.
“Even as of this morning, in my own village, Ikere, about four or five people were attacked,” he revealed. He confirmed that the matter has been reported to security operatives for immediate action.
He therefore used the medium to call on the incumbent Governor of the state Ademola Adeleke to call his supporters to Order.
Directing a message to the state leadership, Oyebamiji challenged the Governor to rein in his supporters to prevent a total breakdown of law and order.
“I want to advise the Governor that it is important for him to talk to his people. Violence against our people is not good. He needs to talk to them so that each and every one of us can be on the same page,” Oyebamiji said.
While emphasizing that “government is about the people,” the APC candidate maintained that his primary concern remains the peace of the state. He appealed to the citizens of Osun to resist the urge to engage in reprisal attacks, even as the party concludes its review of the electoral process.
