Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps in Ogun State have busted pipeline vandals in Ogere, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.
The vandals reportedly abandoned their tools including 302 empty jerry cans when they sighted the NSCDC operatives on Wednesday.
The spokesperson of the NSCDC in the state, Ogbonnaya Dyke disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Dyke explained that the vandals who escaped into the bush after sighting the corps abandoned their tools and the Jerry cans they had planned to use to siphon fuel from the vandalised pipelines in Ogere Area of the state.
He said a patrol team of the NSCDC Command in the state stormed Ogere on Wednesday and met the jerry cans abandoned by the vandals.
He added that the Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Mr Hammed Abodunrin stated that though none of the suspected vandals was arrested, the Command is working towards making arrests.
According to him, the Commandant has vowed that his men would use all available tactics to curb attacks on the pipelines across the state.
He said, “Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command on Wednesday voided an intending strike at a pipeline right of way (PROW) in Antenna, Ogere I, Ikenne Local Government Area of the State by destroying over 302 kegs meant to be used for vandalisation by alleged vandals.
“The Commandant, Mr Hammed Abodunrin, who had instituted a new way of proactive intelligence and strategy which would discourage any intention to commit such heinous crime by irritant vandals, disclosed that the corps will use all available tactics to curb attacks on the pipeline across the state.
“Abodunrin said that the men of the Anti-Vandal team have been commissioned to ensure a zero-tolerance on pipeline vandalisation.”
Dyke in the statement said the Command has been able to boost the activities of the corps through high-level surveillance and intelligence gathering.
He said it was to bring a drastic reduction in pipeline attacks and destruction in the state.
