The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commended the Federal Government for reforms that have revitalised the Corps, as a retiring Assistant Commandant General (ACG), Hammed Abodurin, unveiled six publications at a ceremony in Abuja.
The event, held at the NSCDC National Headquarters, also marked the formal send-off of Abodurin, who is due to retire from active service on May 1, 2026, after a distinguished career.
Speaking on behalf of the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Technical Services, Zakari Ibrahim Ningi, praised the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for policies that have addressed career stagnation, improved personnel welfare, and boosted morale within the Corps.
According to him, the reforms have also strengthened discipline and enhanced operational effectiveness across commands nationwide.
The NSCDC leadership described Abodurin as a distinguished officer and a symbol of intellectual excellence, noting his three-time recognition as Best State Commandant during his years of service.
Emphasising the evolving nature of security work, the Corps stressed that modern service requires more than physical enforcement.
“Service delivery is not only about carrying rifles but also about carrying ideas,” the CG stated, highlighting the importance of research, writing, and knowledge-sharing in building a resilient security institution.
Two of the books launched at the ceremony — Daily Security Tips for School Children and Paramilitary Ethics: The Essential Standard in Paramilitary Operations — were reviewed by experts, while four additional titles covering security operations, public relations, and institutional development were also unveiled.
The ceremony attracted dignitaries from the security and academic sectors, including the Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakauche Ndidi, who was represented at the event, as well as senior military officers.
Goodwill messages were delivered by several prominent figures, including Senator Francis Adenigba, represented by Pastor Sam Progress, alongside other stakeholders.
In his remarks, Abodurin expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NSCDC and his colleagues, crediting the Corps for providing him with opportunities to grow both professionally and intellectually.
He said his career journey reflects a blend of service and scholarship, adding that he is leaving behind a body of work that will continue to contribute to the development of security practice in Nigeria.
