Nigeria has called for stronger, trust-based international cooperation to confront the growing and increasingly complex threat of terrorism across Africa and beyond.
Speaking at a high-level security engagement, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, stressed that terrorism has become a transnational challenge that no country can tackle alone. He warned that extremist groups are exploiting technology, porous borders, and fragile regions, particularly across the Sahel to expand their reach.
Musa emphasised that trust, intelligence sharing, and coordinated operations must form the backbone of global counter-terrorism efforts. According to him, gaps in cooperation continue to give terrorist networks room to regroup, finance operations, and move fighters across regions.
Highlighting Africa’s frontline position, Nigeria noted that insecurity in the Sahel and West Africa is no longer a regional concern but a global one, with implications for migration, economic stability, and international security. The country urged partners to move beyond rhetoric and build practical alliances rooted in mutual respect and shared responsibility.
Nigeria also reiterated that military action alone is insufficient. Addressing the root causes of extremism; poverty, inequality, and weak governance – remains critical to achieving lasting peace.

Reaffirming its commitment, Nigeria pledged to continue working with international allies while calling for a united global front to counter evolving terrorist threats.
