Nigeria has reiterated its diplomatic backing for a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Sudan, signalling renewed efforts to stabilise the region and deepen bilateral cooperation between both countries.
The assurance was given in Abuja by Amb. Dunoma Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a meeting with Sudan’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Mohamed Abdelaal.

According to a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the discussions centred on pathways to ending hostilities in Sudan through dialogue and negotiation, amid concerns over the wider regional impact of the conflict.

Both officials acknowledged that the situation in Sudan carries significant implications for peace and security across Africa, particularly in the Sahel, and stressed the urgency of coordinated diplomatic efforts.
They also explored avenues for strengthening bilateral relations, including plans to convene the Nigeria–Sudan Political Consultations Committee to address issues of mutual interest and enhance cooperation.
The talks further touched on a proposed high-level visit by Sudanese leadership to Nigeria, alongside measures to safeguard Nigerian assets in Sudan and support citizens affected by the crisis.
Ahmed reaffirmed Nigeria’s role within the African Union and the broader international community in advocating for a peaceful settlement, noting that lasting stability can only be achieved through inclusive political processes.
He emphasised the longstanding ties between both nations, describing their relationship as one built on shared history, cultural exchange, and common interests in regional development.

In his remarks, Abdelaal highlighted the integration of people of Nigerian descent within Sudanese society and provided updates on recovery efforts in parts of the country impacted by the conflict. He, however, raised concerns over continued external interference, warning that it could prolong instability and undermine regional security.
