Foreign Investment Network delegation explores manufacturing, renewable energy, technology and new export opportunities for Nigerian businesses.
A Nigerian investment mission to China has opened new avenues for manufacturing, technology transfer, renewable energy and trade, with the Foreign Investment Network (FIN) announcing several memoranda of understanding (MOUs), including a proposed initial US$100 million investment in Nigeria by Chinese building-materials giant 3TREES.
Led by Dr (Mrs) Olayinka Fayomi, Chair and CEO of FIN, the 14-day mission, held from July 31 to August 14, 2026, covered Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou, bringing Nigerian business interests into contact with Chinese investors, industry leaders and business associations. The mission reported 32 high-level meetings and 19 MOUs. FIN Mission Report
From investment talks to industrial partnerships
Among the most significant developments was the agreement with 3TREES, a Shanghai-listed Chinese coatings and building-materials company employing nearly 10,000 people. The proposed initial US$100 million investment is focused on establishing manufacturing opportunities and creating jobs in Nigeria, subject to feasibility studies and relevant approvals.
The company’s technological credentials include Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, as its Chief Technology Adviser. has built an international reputation in coatings and environmentally conscious construction materials. Company profile
The mission also secured agreements covering solar power, energy storage and drone technology. A drone technology partner indicated readiness to establish operations in Nigeria, while discussions with other Chinese companies explored opportunities in electric mobility, robotics, medical technology and industrial production.
Opening doors for Nigerian products
Trade promotion featured prominently, particularly through an agreement for complimentary exhibition space within the Shanghai Free Trade Zone. The initiative is intended to provide a platform for showcasing Nigerian products, businesses and investment opportunities to Chinese buyers and partners.
For Nigerian exporters, the opportunity could help improve visibility and access to a major international market, provided suitable products, quality standards, pricing and distribution arrangements are established.
The delegation also met representatives of Chinese chambers of commerce and the small and medium enterprise sector, while Nigerian light-manufacturing businesses were introduced to diplomatic and commercial contacts. A mining forum organised by a major Chinese law firm brought the delegation into contact with listed mining companies.
Visits to large building-materials manufacturers and major horticultural and flower-production enterprises offered further exposure to China’s industrial capacity and commercial possibilities.
Converting agreements into Nigerian jobs
Beyond the number of agreements signed, the mission’s lasting value will depend on implementation. The proposed investments will need clear timelines, financing arrangements, local partnerships and measurable commitments to Nigerian employment, skills development and technology transfer.
For FIN and its Nigerian partners, the next phase is to translate the diplomatic and commercial connections established in China into operational businesses, stronger exports and sustainable economic opportunities at home.
