Nigeria – A prominent non-governmental organisation (NGO) has formally written to the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria, expressing regret and concern over the recent visa denial of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of Nigeria. The letter, addressed to the High Commissioner, highlights the importance of fostering diplomatic relations and ensuring that high-ranking officials receive due consideration in visa processing.
The NGO emphasised the critical role of the CDS in representing Nigeria in international security engagements and strategic partnerships. The denial of the visa, they argued, not only hampers diplomatic and security cooperation but also undermines the mutual respect between both nations.
In the letter, the organisation extended an apology for any administrative or procedural misunderstandings that may have contributed to the situation. They urged the Canadian authorities to always go beyond politics and consider such decision, taking into account the longstanding relations between Canada and Nigeria, as well as the significant contributions of the CDS to national and international security matters especially on this issue of supporting sports.
Furthermore, the NGO reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and called for enhanced dialogue between both countries to prevent such occurrences in the future. They stressed the need for transparent and diplomatic engagement to ensure seamless collaboration on security, trade, and international development initiatives.
