The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has congratulated Jim Ovia on his retirement as Founder and Group Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, describing his exit as the end of an era in Nigeria’s financial services sector.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, NELFUND praised Ovia’s visionary leadership, noting that his stewardship transformed Zenith Bank into one of Africa’s most respected and globally recognized financial institutions. The fund highlighted his commitment to innovation, excellence, and sound corporate governance, which it said positioned the bank as a benchmark for performance and digital transformation.

According to the statement, Zenith Bank recorded significant growth under Ovia’s leadership, expanding its operations across international markets while consistently delivering value to stakeholders. Commenting on the development, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, said Ovia’s legacy would remain a reference point for excellence in the country’s economic development.
