Chairman of the planning committee for the burial of late Iyalode of Yorubaland, iyalode Alaba Lawson, Chief Sanya Abiola, has revealed that the late iyalode of yorubaland has specifically instructed before final breath that there should be no drumming at her funeral.
Speaking at a press briefing held on monday at the residence of the deceased in Quarry Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Abiola shared that the purpose of the briefing was to inform the public about the week-long burial plans for the first female National President of the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, scheduled between December 1 and December 8, 2023 .
Abiola emphasized, “One of the wishes of the Late Iyalode Alaba Lawson was that there should be no drumming during her burial.”
He clarified that despite the absence of drumming, arrangements have been made for packaged food to be distributed to guests throughout the event while the 8-day burial ceremony will commence from December 1 to December 8, 2023.
The Chairman planning committee accompanied by other members also disclosed that the first six days (Friday December 1 to Wednesday December 6, 2023) have been dedicated to various groups, associations and professional bodies among others who have shown interest in celebrating the deceased
Abiola added that on Friday December 1, 2023, NACCIMA Business Women Group (NAWORG) will hold a special service in her honour at the NACCIMA office, GRA Ikeja, Lagos
The Chairman announced that in similar vein, on Monday, December 4, the ECOWAS Federation of Business Women Entrepreneurs (ECOWAS-FEBWE) will hold a night of tributes in her honour at the Radisson Blu Hotel, GRA Ikeja, Lagos.
Another home base Christian Wake/Night of Tributes is scheduled for Thursday, December 7, at the Marquee Event Centre, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Abeokuta, while the funeral service will take place on Friday, December 8, at the Cathedral of St James’ Anglican Church, Idi Ape, Abeokuta. Abiola noted that both events are strictly by invitation.
The interment will be a private affair for the family of the deceased, and the burial service will be broadcast live by the television and radio stations of Ogun State government and on various platforms home and abroad .
