Former Adamawa State Governor Jibrilla Bindow has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending his three-year absence from the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bindow formally re-registered as an APC member at his ward in Mubi, Adamawa State, on Sunday.

The former governor left the APC in January 2023 after losing the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2023 election.

Explaining his decision to return, Bindow said it followed extensive consultations with political associates and trusted confidants.

He said he had also remained conscious of party discipline throughout his absence and avoided actions that could be interpreted as working against the APC.

Bindow disclosed that he consulted Vice-President Kashim Shettima before making his decision, describing the Vice-President as his “brother and confidant.”

He also recalled a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu, describing the encounter as “pleasant and memorable.”

According to the former governor, his return was motivated by a desire to strengthen the APC rather than pursue personal political ambitions.

“I am back to the APC not to divide, but to contribute; not to fight, but to build; and above all, to work with the party and its candidates toward victory,” Bindow said.

He pledged to support APC candidates in Adamawa and actively participate in the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.

Bindow had earlier expressed interest in contesting the 2027 Adamawa governorship election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) but withdrew from the race in May.

His return to the APC comes as political parties and their major stakeholders intensify mobilisation and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
