Renowned Nigerian Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr. Ibrahim Wada, OON, has been honoured with the North America Africa’s Iconic Golden Award in IVF Medicine in the World by Naija Standard Newspaper Inc. USA, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to reproductive medicine, fertility treatment, and healthcare innovation across Africa.

The award, presented as part of the media organization’s 15th anniversary celebration, also comes with Dr. Wada’s induction into the Texas Golden Healthcare Elite Hall of Fame (Class of 2025) for his achievements in medical research, healthcare reform, and transformative leadership in Nigeria’s health sector.

According to the Editorial Board of Naija Standard Newspaper Inc. USA, the honour followed an extensive investigative assessment and editorial review of distinguished African medical professionals in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The organization stated that Dr. Wada emerged as the overall winner after scoring the highest in its internal evaluation, which focused on the impact of medical breakthroughs, scientific innovation, reproductive healthcare advancement, and contributions to fertility medicine across Africa.

Presenting the award, Dr. George Elijah Otumu described Dr. Wada as an exceptional medical professional whose contributions have transformed fertility medicine and healthcare delivery in Nigeria and across the African continent. He said the award was in recognition of Dr. Wada’s decades of excellence, innovation, and unwavering commitment to improving healthcare through cutting-edge medical technology, research, and patient-centered care.

Dr. Otumu noted that Dr. Wada’s pioneering role in IVF medicine, introduction of robotic-assisted surgery, and continuous investment in world-class healthcare services had distinguished him among his peers, making him a deserving recipient of the prestigious international honour.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Ibrahim Wada dedicated the award to the hardworking staff of the NISA Medical Group, describing them as the driving force behind the institution’s numerous achievements.

“I dedicate this award to every member of staff of NISA Medical Group whose dedication, professionalism, and commitment to quality healthcare have made these accomplishments possible,” he said.

Dr. Wada reaffirmed his commitment to advancing healthcare delivery in Nigeria, stating that the recognition would further inspire him to do more.

“I will not stop doing things that will improve healthcare in Nigeria. This recognition is an encouragement to continue investing in innovation, medical excellence, and quality patient care for the benefit of Nigerians and Africa at large,” he said.

The citation highlighted Dr. Wada’s decades of medical practice, noting that he received the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in 2006 for his groundbreaking contributions to IVF medicine in Nigeria.

Dr. Wada, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of NISA Medical Group, obtained his MBBS degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, before undergoing specialist training and serving in several leading hospitals in the United Kingdom, including Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge; Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn; Manchester Fertility Services; and St. Mary’s Hospital, Manchester.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG), Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS), and also holds a Master of Business Administration in International Hospitals and Healthcare Management from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Germany.

The citation further noted that Dr. Wada has authored more than 15 peer-reviewed academic publications and written two books, The Second Chance and PPP in Health.

Beyond fertility medicine, Dr. Wada was credited with introducing bariatric surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, urologic surgery, and pioneering the first robotic-assisted surgery in Africa through NISA Premier Hospital in Abuja.

Established in 1996, NISA Premier Hospital has grown from an eight-bed facility into a modern multispecialty hospital with over 200 beds. The hospital recently became the first in Abuja to introduce robotic-assisted surgery, providing minimally invasive procedures with enhanced surgical precision, faster recovery times, reduced complications, and improved patient outcomes.

The newspaper said the selection process was conducted under strict confidentiality to eliminate external influence and ensure credibility. It explained that nominees were evaluated based on measurable impact in medical innovation, scientific discovery, healthcare transformation, and overall contribution to women’s reproductive health.

Dr. Wada competed alongside leading obstetricians and gynaecologists from Ghana, Liberia, Senegal, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.

According to the organizers, Dr. Wada recorded the highest score among the finalists, ahead of other distinguished specialists across the continent.
