The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, on behalf of the Force Management team, and Officers of the Nigeria Police Fo has announce the demise of an eminent communicator, ardent officer, and Member of the National Institute, AIG Donald Ngorngor Awunah, which occurred in the early hours of Monday 23rd May, 2022, at Garki Hospital Abuja, after a brief illness.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, AIG Awunah, hails from Benue State and was a one-time Spokesperson for the Force who until his death was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16 Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 15th March, 1988, and was a dedicated officer with great passion for training and development and was at a time the Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos.
The Inspector-General of Police, acknowledges his resourcefulness and commitment to duty. He hereby condoles with the immediate family, relatives, fellow coursemates, and friends of the deceased AIG who passed away in active service of his fatherland and prays for the repose of his soul
Similarly The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) expressed shock over the news of the demise of the Former Force Public Relations Officer Don Awunah
A statement Jointly Signed by the Chairman of the association Hassan Zaggi and the Secretary Festus Fifen described the erstwhile FPRO as an outstanding Force Spokesman who was very supportive of the activities of the association when he headed the Force Public Relations Department.
” Awunah who was appointed Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) by the then IGP, Ibrahim Idris, in 2016, was one of the exceptional and hardworking Spokesman the Nigeria Police Force ever produced.
” He worked closely and was very supportive to our Association when he was Force Public Relations Officer.
” The EXCO and the entire members of CCAN, therefore, condole with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali, the immediate family and indeed, Benue State, over the huge loss.
” While we pray for the repose of the soul of AIG Awunah, we urge the family to take it as the will of God and be console with the fact that he touched many lives positively and made immense contribution to the protection of lives and property in Nigeria.”
