Court of Appeal Upholds Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Election Victory

Gov Fintiri
Abuja’s Court of Appeal has upheld the election victory of Ahmadu Fintiri, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate and governor of Adamawa State.
The ruling dismissed the petition filed by Umar Ardo, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who contested Fintiri’s win after the election results were declared.
Ardo and the SDP alleged significant non-compliance with the Electoral Act, citing corrupt practices, threats, and violence during the voting process, seeking to nullify Fintiri’s election.
However, a three-man panel led by Justice Theodora Uloho dismissed the petition, citing its incompetence and improper filing, noting the petitioners’ lack of clarity in their claims.
Following the tribunal’s decision, Ardo appealed, but the Court of Appeal, led by Justice Ugochukwu Ogaku, upheld the tribunal’s findings. Justice Ogaku stated that the appellants failed to substantiate allegations of corrupt practices and non-compliance with the Electoral Act against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Consequently, the Court declared, “This appeal lacks merit. The tribunal’s decision to dismiss the petition stands affirmed.”
