In a move aimed at strengthening security and improving public infrastructure, Rt. Hon. Abiodun James Faleke has donated 600 solar-powered street lights to support the administration of Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo across Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The initiative, which targets enhanced nighttime visibility and safety, will benefit five local government areas within the district. According to the distribution plan, Okene received 200 units, Adavi and Okehi received 130 units each, while Ajaokuta and Ogori/Magongo were allocated 70 units apiece.
Oversight for the installation and monitoring of the solar street lights has been entrusted to Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi, popularly known as Gamji. He is expected to coordinate deployment through a network spanning the various LGAs. As part of the implementation directive, special consideration was given to Fulani Ruga settlements to ensure inclusive distribution.
In Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area, the allocation of 70 solar lights was formally received at the Ogori Civic Centre. The distribution was structured to reflect ward representation and community needs. Ogori communities, comprising six wards, were allocated 40 units, while Magongo communities, with four wards, received 30 units.
Notably, inclusivity remained a central focus of the exercise. Out of the 40 units assigned to Ogori, 15 were designated for Fulani Ruga settlements within the area.Similarly, 15 out of the 30 units allocated to Magongo were earmarked for Fulani settlements, ensuring that pastoral communities were not left out of the development initiative.
The distribution exercise was witnessed by key stakeholders and community leaders. Among them were Mr. Friday Moses Agbabiaka, National Assistant General Secretary of the Ogori Descendants Union (ODU), and Hon. Ojo Odi, representing the Magongo Development Association (MDA), home-based. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort between community organizations and government representatives.
In their remarks, both leaders commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. They emphasized that improved street lighting would not only enhance security but also promote economic and social activities within the communities.
Speaking on behalf of the Fulani community, the Seriki Fulani of Ogori/Magongo LGA, Mallam Ibrahim Haruna, expressed appreciation for the inclusion of Ruga settlements in the distribution. He noted that the gesture reflects a commitment to equity, unity, and shared progress across diverse groups.
The solar street light project is expected to significantly improve visibility at night, deter criminal activities, and contribute to safer living conditions across Kogi Central.
