Late Dr Herbert Wigwe bags Award in South Africa
Africa Business News Group (owners of CNBC Africa & Forbes Africa) has awarded Mr Herbert Wigwe, posthumously, for “Outstanding Corporate Leadership”.
This was during a ceremony on the 24th of October 2024, in recognition by the AABLA (ALL AFRICA BUSINESS LEADERS AWARDS 2024) where he is the first awardee, for the outstanding leadership he provided not only to his business, but to other businesses across the continent.
Mr Emeka Wigwe, who is the younger brother of the deceased, was in attendance at the ceremony to receive the prestigious award, on behalf of his late brother.
*It is noteworthy that the late Herbert has received over fifteen (15 ) prestigious commendations from different organisations since his demise,* during the fatal helicopter crash that took the lives of his wife, son, friend and two pilots in California, earlier this year, in February.
In recent weeks pictures and videos of the botanical garden and fountain, unveiled in his honour by the ACEGID ( African Centre of Excellence For Genomics Infectious Diseases, Redeemer’s University, Ede Nigeria)have been in viral circulation. A memorial plague stands in the garden, bearing the words, “A Silent, Steadfast and Strong Supporter”.. to serve as a continuous reflection of his selfless service for the benefit of humanity.
Also recently, viral photos of the refurbished National Theatre Lagos, commending the Bankers’ Committee and the late Herbert for their generous contributions.
In the wake of the first matriculation at the Wigwe University, this month at the Isiokpo Campus in Rivers State, Nigeria, another viral video has emerged, showing the well tarred streets, glowingly lined with street lights of the campus grounds. This video, features jubilant youths, elated by their surroundings and the bright future ahead of them.
Thus, the late Dr Herbert continues to impact lives and destines positively from his abode, beyond the skies.
What an enigma, what a legacy he has left behind. From the unfolding of all these achievements and commendations, more and more, we learn that he was highly understated. Dr Herbert was a much bigger man than anyone really knew.
It reminds us of the proverbial story of twelve blind men, made to touch an elephant, and then each described it as the part they felt. So whereas, hitherto, some would have described Dr Herbert as a banker, another would as a philanthropist interested in public health, and yet another, would have said his interest was in the arts and another in youth development and education. However, with all these facets , coming to light, put together, sews the pictures of one of the finest kaleidoscopes of the life of a mortal ever viewed on earth.
Indeed, the soul is a great entity, accorded to everyone.?There are greater visionaries, and greatest, the greater visionaries on a realisation and manifestation mission.
We thank the Almighty God for the impactful life, lived and inspired by the exemplary Dr Herbert who let his light shine with humane and caring actions of love, that made the world a more beautiful place, to the glory of his God.
May Dr Herbert’s soul , his beloved wife, precious son, faithful friend and the air crew, rest in peace. Amen
Julie A Dyer.
