Army Destroys Suspected Illegal Bunkering Site in Lagos, Arrests Six

Troops of the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State, arresting six suspected oil bunkerers during an intelligence-led operation.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of the Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, following credible intelligence on the activities of the suspected economic saboteurs.

According to the Army, troops raided the site and apprehended six suspects allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering.

Items recovered during the operation included four trucks, a pumping machine, and assorted pipes and drums believed to have been used for the illicit operation.

The Nigerian Army said the suspects and all recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commending the troops for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, praised their professionalism and urged them to sustain the offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the division’s area of responsibility.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to supporting efforts to combat crude oil theft, illegal bunkering and other crimes that undermine the nation’s economy and security.
