The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has re-elected Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as its National Chairman during the party’s 8th National Convention held in Abuja on Friday, as the party moved to consolidate its leadership ahead of future political activities.
Delegates at the convention also returned all members of the National Working Committee (NWC) through a consensus arrangement and an affirmative voice vote, reaffirming the party’s current leadership structure.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the newly elected NWC members were sworn in immediately after their confirmation and will oversee the party’s affairs for the next four years.
Members of the National Working Committee include Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Dalori; Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu; National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru; National Financial Secretary, Bashir Gumel; and National Legal Adviser, Murtala Kankia, among others.
In his acceptance speech, Yilwatda said the newly inaugurated committee was prepared to reposition the party and support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in rebuilding the country.
He stated that the party’s mission was to build a stronger, more transparent, inclusive, and disciplined political platform across Nigeria and Africa, while also deepening internal democracy and strengthening party structures nationwide.
Yilwatda also emphasised youth empowerment and expansion of the party’s reach across communities, noting that young people remain a critical part of the party’s present and future.
He commended President Tinubu for his leadership and support for the party, adding that ongoing economic reforms, infrastructure investments, social intervention programmes, and digital innovation initiatives were already showing positive signs for the country’s economy.
The APC chairman pledged to run an open-door administration and expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections.
