President Bola Tinubu has urged newly elected members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) to demonstrate humility, fairness and dedication in their service to the party, stressing that their leadership would shape the future of both the party and Nigeria’s democracy.
The President gave the charge on Friday in Abuja during the party’s National Convention, where new national officers were elected into the NWC under the theme, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Tinubu described the convention’s theme as a timely reminder that meaningful progress could only be achieved through unity, urging party leaders to remain committed to the ideals and vision of the APC.
Addressing the newly elected officers, the President said they must justify the confidence reposed in them by party members through transparent leadership, integrity and courage.
He noted that the APC had continued to grow in strength over the past two years, with an increasing number of politicians, including governors, senators and members of the House of Representatives, defecting from other political parties to join its ranks.
According to him, the growing membership reflected Nigerians’ trust in the party and the strength of its political ideology. He therefore urged the new NWC members to sustain the party’s expansion by ensuring credible leadership and transparent party administration, supported by a reliable and verifiable nationwide membership database.
Tinubu also commended the Convention Central Coordination Planning Committee, led by former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari and former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, for what he described as their dedication and excellent organisation of the convention.
The President further acknowledged the contributions of women to the growth and stability of the party, stressing the need for greater female participation in leadership and decision-making.
He assured that the party would create more opportunities for women to occupy leadership positions within party structures and in government at all levels, noting that any political party that sidelines women weakens its own structure, while those that empower women become stronger and more resilient.
