The House of Representatives Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control on Thursday, 21st March, 2024 queried the Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom for appearing before its committee without the Consultant that handled the controversial contract allegations of misused $300Million meant to tackle malaria since 2021.
The Chairman of the Committee and member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Abia State, Hon Amobi Ogah, and other members of the committee expressed their displeasure to the Permanent Secretary as she only came with some Directors in the Ministry without the Consultant that the contract was awarded to.
The Committee had on Tuesday issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Minister and the Permanent Secretary to appear before it or face arrest having failed to appear before it after three invitations.
The duo are also expected to answer questions bothering on allegations of denying indigenous manufacturers of insecticidal nets from participating in the contract for the procurement of the items and other related products.
The Committee thereby adjourned the meeting sine die as the house has embarked on recess for the Easter celebrations.
