Firefighters Continue Battle Against Wildfire on Edinburgh’s Arthur’s Seat

Firefighters in Scotland are continuing efforts to bring a wildfire under control on Arthur’s Seat, the iconic hill overlooking Edinburgh, after flames broke out on Sunday evening.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said it deployed six fire engines along with specialist resources to tackle the blaze, which spread across an area of grassland in Holyrood Park.

“Our crews remain on scene this morning having worked tirelessly throughout the night fighting the fire,” SFRS Area Commander David Dourley said in a statement released on Monday. “Operations will continue today until the fire is fully extinguished.”

Dourley added that no injuries had been reported.

Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano rising about 251 metres (823 feet) above sea level, is one of Edinburgh’s best-known landmarks and attracts thousands of visitors each year with its panoramic views of the Scottish capital.

The hill is also home to several historic sites, including the remains of an Iron Age hill fort believed to be around 2,000 years old and the ruins of the 15th-century St. Anthony’s Chapel.

Located within Holyrood Park, Arthur’s Seat lies close to the Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official royal residence in Edinburgh.
