The United States has announced the full enforcement of a naval blockade targeting Iran, effectively bringing the country’s maritime trade to a halt amid escalating tensions in the region.
According to United States Central Command, the operation has secured control over key maritime routes, stopping vessels from entering or leaving Iranian ports. Commander Brad Cooper disclosed in a statement that the blockade was implemented swiftly, with seaborne trade disrupted within 36 hours of its initiation.
Military officials confirmed that U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers were deployed to enforce the restriction, maintaining what they described as operational dominance across strategic waters in the Middle East. The command further stated that the blockade applies uniformly to all vessels, regardless of nationality, operating in Iranian coastal zones.
The move follows an earlier directive by Donald Trump, who ordered the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran in Islamabad failed to yield a breakthrough.
U.S. authorities say the objective of the blockade is to curtail Iran’s ability to generate revenue from maritime transit fees and oil exports, a key source of the country’s income.
