The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) says it will partner with UNICEF in embarking on digital literacy training and remote learning for 45,000 Teachers in 24 States of Nigeria.
Registrar of the council, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye who made the disclosure while addressing a press conference in Abuja said the training which was earlier designed for 30,000 teachers across 16 focal States has been extended to additional 15,000 teachers who will be trained in 8 focal States.
He said the training which is to take place in 4 tranches will take place between 21st and 26th Febuary, 2022 in Benue, Baucgi, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Plateau, Taraba and Zamfara, among others.
MyThe 8 extended States are; Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Lagos, Osun, Oyo and Rivers.
According to him, “each tranche of the training is involving 7,500 teachers”.
“The first stage of this project was the training of 480 Master trainers who be serving as facilitators in the upcoming training across these locations”.The Master trainers were trained in November, 2021 across the selected States”. He noted.
The overall objectives of the training program are;
To bridge the gap created by the outbreak of the pandemic that severely affected the education system of the country.
To provide capacity development opportunities to teachers and school leaders in deployment of technology in classrooms, distance learning methods using both online and offline to continue learning.
To train teachers and school leaders in emergency preparedness and response to provide safe school practice including COVID-19 and build resilience in learners against future shocks.
