President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, religious harmony and national unity as the Muslim World League, in collaboration with the Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), holds an international security conference in Abuja.

The conference, scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, will bring together religious leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders to deliberate on peace, security, national unity and socio-economic development.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Monday during the inauguration of a newly constructed mosque in Abuja by the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Scholars, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.

Idris, who earlier received Sheikh Al-Issa at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and accompanied him to the mosque inauguration, described the visit as a demonstration of the strong relationship between Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and the wider international community.

According to the minister, the security conference comes at a critical period as Nigeria strengthens its national security architecture while implementing reforms and investments aimed at accelerating socio-economic development.

He said President Tinubu remained committed to ensuring peace and tranquillity in Nigeria and promoting peaceful coexistence among citizens of different faiths.

“The President is determined to ensure peace and tranquillity not just in Nigeria, but around the world. This is a clear demonstration of the path that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking,” Idris said.

The minister stressed that peace and security were fundamental to Nigeria’s prosperity and stability, noting that the country’s stability would have significant implications for West Africa and the wider African continent.

Idris said Nigeria, as Africa’s most populous country, had a major responsibility to promote peace and stability across the continent.

He added that the conference would provide a platform for religious leaders and other stakeholders to exchange ideas and develop practical approaches to strengthening peaceful coexistence, security and mutual understanding among Muslims, Christians and people of other faiths.

The minister commended the Muslim World League, JIBWIS, the Saudi Arabian Government and other stakeholders for facilitating Sheikh Al-Issa’s visit and the establishment of the mosque.

He also praised the Muslim World League Secretary-General for his sustained commitment to peace, dialogue and understanding among faith communities.

Al-Issa Commends Tinubu

Earlier, Sheikh Al-Issa commended President Tinubu for his efforts to promote peaceful coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims in Nigeria.

He said peace and harmony in Nigeria would contribute significantly to stability across West Africa and the wider world.

The Muslim World League Secretary-General said his visit to Nigeria was primarily focused on promoting peace and peaceful coexistence.

He expressed confidence that the international conference would strengthen dialogue, mutual understanding and harmony in Nigeria and beyond.

The International Security Conference is expected to deliberate on contemporary security challenges and explore practical pathways towards greater peace, national unity, religious harmony and sustainable socio-economic development.
