ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, effective August 27, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his X platform.
Enitan will succeed Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
According to the Presidency, Enitan, an indigene of Osun State, is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.
He has spent seven years and seven months as a Permanent Secretary, serving at the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President. He currently serves as Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Presidency said his extensive experience across key government institutions had equipped him with substantial institutional knowledge and a strong understanding of the operations of the Federal Civil Service.
President Tinubu commended the outgoing Head of Service for her contributions to the Civil Service, particularly the reforms, innovations and institutional improvements recorded during her tenure.
He wished Walson-Jack a fulfilling retirement and expressed appreciation for her years of dedicated service to the nation.
The President tasked Enitan with consolidating ongoing reforms and innovations in the Civil Service while strengthening professionalism, efficiency and accountability across the system.
Tinubu also charged the incoming Head of Service to build a more effective and responsive Civil Service capable of supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He urged Enitan to promote a Civil Service that is professional, merit-driven, accountable, innovative and responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.
He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
