Team Nigeria Begins Final Move to Glasgow Ahead of 2026 Commonwealth Games

With just three days to the opening of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Team Nigeria has commenced its final relocation from its pre-Games training base in Aberdeen to the host city of Glasgow.

The first batch of Nigerian athletes and officials is scheduled to depart Aberdeen on Tuesday, 21 July, while the second contingent will arrive at the Games Village on Friday, 24 July, joining teammates already in Glasgow ahead of the opening stages of competition.

The phased movement follows weeks of intensive training, acclimatisation, and final preparations in Aberdeen, where the Nigerian delegation has worked to fine-tune its readiness for one of the Commonwealth’s premier multi-sport events.

During the training camp, the National Sports Commission (NSC) provided extensive technical, medical, and welfare support aimed at ensuring athletes arrive in Glasgow in optimal condition and ready to deliver strong performances.

Team Nigeria will compete across multiple sporting disciplines, with hopes high following a number of impressive displays by Nigerian athletes at recent continental and international competitions.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place from 23 July to 2 August, featuring about 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations competing for 215 gold medals across 11 sports.
