Imperial College London hosts the first group of secondary school students from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
The Akwa Ibom State student Educational exchange tour first batch delegation to the United Kingdom was hosted by Dr Sunday Popo-Ola at Imperial College London.
The visit was led by Comrade Ini Ememobong, Commissioner for Information and Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, Commissioner for Education of Akwa Ibom State.
18 Senior Secondary School (SSS-3) students, along with their minders, teachers and staff of the state’s Ministries of Education and Information participated in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Taster session and a comprehensive campus tour of the prestigious and 2nd best university in the world.
The students engaged in various science and engineering workshop, which provided them with hands-on experience and enriched their understanding of key STEM concepts.
This opportunity allowed them to broaden their knowledge and develop practical and 21st-century skills, including Critical thinking, Creativity, Collaboration and Communication.
These are the skills that will offer them valuable insights into potential opportunity for studying STEM subjects at UK’s universities and enchance their future careers prospect in these fields.
As the Don sais, “we look forward to the second group of students and delegation next week to complete the full 39 rural secondary school students selected through an open academic test in Uyo a few months ago. Once again, as a key consulting partner of this project, Cater and Merger Consult, thanks, Dr. Popo-Ola for making this Educational Exchange tour a huge life experience for the young students and the state officials accompanying the delegate”.
