Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave, his first since assuming office in May 2023, following approval by President **Bola Ahmed Tinubu>.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Vice President’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the leave will allow Shettima to engage in study, reflection and intellectual renewal as part of efforts to strengthen his capacity for continued service to the nation.
Nkwocha said the period would also provide an opportunity for the Vice President to review the administration’s ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since taking office on May 29, 2023, Shettima has played a key role in coordinating and supervising strategic government initiatives, particularly in economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
He has also chaired the National Economic Council (NEC), which comprises the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior government officials, to deliberate on policies affecting the economy and the welfare of Nigerians.
Beyond his domestic responsibilities, the Vice President has represented President Tinubu at several regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.
The statement said Shettima remains committed to the ideals of loyalty, duty and public service, as well as supporting President Tinubu’s efforts to build a more secure, productive and prosperous Nigeria.
He is expected to resume his official duties at the end of the two-week leave with what the presidency described as renewed energy and dedication to national service.
